Abhinay and I started watching True Detective a couple of weeks ago. We finished S1, S3 and S4. All 4 seasons are different stories - set in different times but in somewhat the same TD universe. Why I loved this show more than most other thrillers is that they all usually try to show cops and detectives as this holier than thou personalities that can make no mistakes. Here however, all the seasons I watched takes us through the journey of imperfect detectives in their own chaotic universe.
The first season is a masterpiece. If you haven’t watched it, go watch it. Brilliant writing, acting and overall execution.
The third one is poetic, slow and okay. It’s different, covers three different timelines in parallel, but not the best one to watch right after S1.
Season 4 was mind-blowing. Not in a ‘this is the best True Detective season’ way, but more of a this is an amazing tv show by itself. It’s set in a post sunset Ennis — a fictional town in Alaska. I don’t usually prefer TV shows that are set in darkness (literal post sunset darkness), but this one was special. One of the other things I loved about this season was the fact that most people had such horrible things to say about it. Not too many people liked it. I think I can finally say I watched something truly underrated? haha
The title song specifically stayed. It’s bury a friend by Billie Eilish.
I usually crave for bright pink and happy (+ chaotic) stories that are largely somewhat warm. The last couple weeks has been different though. I feel the need for more dark, murderous, gory tv shows to watch. Not ghosts, no ghosts please. Season 4, TD, was a special exception.
It’s been my state of mind since the whole supreme court verdict on stray dogs as well. I want to give my raw, non-nuanced take on it. It’s stupid. All the implementation complications and details aside, it’s plain stupid.
Long rant incoming. You’ve been warned.
We’re not superior just because we’re human beings. We do not have the right to destroy another species just because we refuse to hold people accountable for keeping their population in check ..and yada yada. Yes I said destroy because there will be no shelters. This is the equivalent of a ‘we are taking them to a farm to grow old and die’ that we hear in movies.
I know how I sound when I say, we’re not superior species and keep their population in check in the same sentence. Bite me.
I love dogs. I’ve been bitten by dogs. It’s customary for me to get rabies shot every year, sometimes multiple times a year. I don’t blame the dogs for it though. It’s the f*cking G and all of its subsidiary little functions that refuse to do its damn job. The dogs are hungry, ill-treated by humans and so are cranky. Have you never been hangry? So let the rest of us feed them, support in ABC programs and actually get the dogs vaccinated.
The question you’re looking for is — how come sometimes people got the rabies shot and yet it didn’t help them? Good. Now you’re getting somewhere. A doctor said ah you need immunoglobulins to not get rabies. Okay, why isn’t it prescribed? I’m not a doctor, but i do visit one every time i get bitten. Once i was at this ER in Chennai apollo after a street dog bit me. It was my fault for going near it saying “baybeee”. But you know i sat at the ER with the blood dripping from my fingers and nobody told me what to do? Or gave me any first aid. What’s the point of an over-expensive ER again? The blood started to dry, so i screamed and asked again if anyone was going to look at it. Then a doctor looks at me and goes “go wash it”. Thanks for making me wait I guess. God forbid i question a doctor’s competence, they’ll come for me. And no immunoglobulins was given or discussed. I digress.
All that being said, don’t approach a random animal on the street, vaccinate your pets and ffs keep them on a tight leash when you take them out on a walk. Pay attention to your dog, not the phone. Don’t be an idiot and bring blame for the rest of us. Also your friendly reminder — adopt, don’t shop!
A large scam is being reported on, but let’s allow these people to dangle little shiny things in front of our faces and treat our attention spans like their little toys to take our voices away from the real issues.
Rabies is a real issue, yes. There’s a whole solution in place for it, the people responsible refuse to implement. As Jodie Foster says in the night country — Ask the right questions.
Back in Chennai a lot of corporation dog catching vans used to come around to take the dogs to get spayed. But it was the rest of our jobs to make sure they bring them back to the same area. Most of the dogs I used to feed have either died after they dropped them off (because virus) or they never come back. I’ve chased behind dog vans as they took my streeties that were already spayed. They had the cut on their ear for the visible mark and yet. I’d never see them again. You think they’re living on a little farm/shelter in the outskirts? Bless your positive little head.
Someone said when a dog bites someone there’s no accountability unlike humans who get punished. A little note - when a dog bites someone the dog is k*lled. Humans on the other hand get to …represent us. Some are even celebrated when they get bail. Please don’t post a screenshot and tag me. I can’t with these maniacs on twitter.
Another interesting observation based on this outrage; One of this is true — I think that people understand ‘yes all men’ and still yell ‘not all men’ or…they are selectively dumb. Because they are saying ‘yes all dogs’ since one dog chased them when they were a kid.
My apologies to my friends, family and acquaintances for equating two things that may seem unfair to you. It sounds perfectly reasonable to me.
Someone said if you don’t collar them, they aren’t yours. Someone else said, why don’t you dog lovers do this, do that .. ah little dimwits, what are YOU doing about it? Get them out of my sight, my babies are safe finally because the dogs are their only threat. I’d be happy to help replace the dirty little blindfolds. The street dogs are the only reason why we will never be a first world country; sorry, have you lived here? These dog lovers don’t care about the poor… okay, do YOU? or are you just using them to make your little convenient argument?
Pardon my rant, I’m very angry and I’m using my little blog to express it. It’s been tiresome.
Doesn’t matter what I say. Danglers be dangling, attention be wavering.
On to lighter things; The only comfort I’ve had this entire week is work, watching tv and having my hazelnut flavoured dunkin’ coffee every day. Abhinay’s sister gave us a big packet.
I’m going to watch Coolie tomorrow. Can’t wait to scream thalaivaa in the theatre.
Fin.
